The Saskatoon Gophers entered a team to participate at this year’s edition of Cup of the North in Edmonton. The team started out strong against the Southern Ladies, continued to win games against both U21 boys national squads, and ended the day with another two wins against the Alberta teams Mountain Cookies and Wild Roses. After a long but undefeated first tournament day, the Gophers finally got some rest and ended the day with team pizza.
The second tournament day started exceptionally late, and the Gophers played their first game in the afternoon against the East Coast Collective. After a tough 5:1 loss, the Gophers were headed to the Bronze medal game due to the structure of the playoff pool. After a hard-fought game, the Gophers beat Cinco 3:1 and secured their Bronze medal.
Whether it is an experienced vet that’s going to the tournament, or one of our Rookies, it’s always a fun time, great competition, and an opportunity to learn & make friends in the community. Congratulations to all Saskatoon Gophers!
