Our club is the home of kayak polo in Saskatchewan. Each team has five players on the pitch who compete to score in their opponent’s net. Kayak polo combines kayaking and ball handling skills with the speed and contact of hockey as well as the tactics and positional plays of basketball. As such, the sport requires teamwork in addition to techniques unique to kayak polo.

Club practices run twice a week on Sundays and Tuesdays (currently only Sunday nights, Fall 2021). The first hour of practice on Sundays is dedicated to improving individual skills while games are played in the second half. Tuesdays are mostly used for game play. Kayaks and all required gear are provided for use at the PAC pool during the fall and winter program as part of the membership fee. Non-members can drop-in at club nights and participate.

Highlights in addition to club practices are the participation in competitive tournaments such as Cup of the North in Edmonton as well as recreational tournaments to play some friendly polo and make friends.

The University of Saskatchewan Kayak Club is dedicated to teaching basic kayak and canoe polo skills through a variety of Learn-To-Kayak sessions for both students and residents around Saskatoon. The Learn-To-Kayak sessions teach basic skills such as wet-exits, T-rescues, front strokes, back strokes, hand rolls and paddle rolls in addition to skills needed for kayak polo. This can help paddlers develop more confidence in the water, improve skills, and learn how to play canoe polo. All interested individuals are encouraged to come out and try these sessions.
